DID YOU KNOW​

• Only 5 states (CT, DE, HI, MA, RI) have less public land than Iowa. 

• The states of MD, NH, and NJ each have more public land than Iowa, yet each has ~ 1/6th land area of Iowa. ​

• The DNR does not buy prime farm land - of the lands the DNR owns 51% are within the 100yr floodplain and of the lands outside the floodplain 80% are highly erodible.

• Iowa DNR is the only state agency that pays property taxes - over $1.3M in FY24.
